Services For Children & Families

Genie Networks provides assessments and family support services to families with deafness, these families are:
• deaf children and their families
• deaf parents and their children

We also provide support for the whole family network including grand parents, extended families and family friends.

Examples of services we provide are:
• Deaf Role Models.
• Support to deaf people in their parenting role.
• Support and advice to hearing parents about how to practically parent a deaf child e.g. play techniques, coping strategies, behaviour management.
• Information, advice, guidance and signposting to appropriate services.
• Support during transition from young person to adulthood.
• Assistance to enable a deaf child, deaf parent or a Young Carer to develop their identity, self worth and self esteem..
• Support to groups of parents of deaf children and deaf adults.
• Support for families at point of diagnosis of childhood deafness.
• Awareness raising for families about the implications of deafness.
• Advice and practical guidance for families about communication with a deaf child.
• Assistance to families to ensure access to mainstream services e.g. play and leisure facilites.
• Advocacy and emotional support.
• Drop In service for deaf parents joint with adult support service provision
